It seems this site has too many pictures, or too many big pictures and too many pages for the legacy editor to handle well. Maybe this winter we’ll migrate to the updated choices for editing and hosting. Seems like a huge job. Not sure it can be done one bite at a time. Until the photo issue with the service provider are sorted out, pictures will be sparse (maybe one picture is worth a thousand words).
Cleanup from the July 19th windstorm carried on into August.
Son-in-law, Nick, is currently working most of the time in Fort MacMurray and back home for a couple of days every other weekend. August long weekend was not one of his home weekends. Rebekah and the kids came to Meadow Lake for the weekend. We got to visit. They walked our paths and helped pull a stump or two of the wind blown over trees.
I finished the three benches for around the firepit.
The last of the branches got hauled away to the compost grounds or the regional dump, depending.
The annual chimney cleaning happened. Oil changes all around for the mowers and snowblower.
Juanita and I took a day trip down to see the house Sasha is buying in Saskatoon. My mental model of where the house sat in the city was flawed. Mr. Google knew better and directed us to turn off the Yellowhead far too early than we thought was appropriate. While discussing this phenomenon I blundered inadvertently into a slower speed zone. The nice policeman who flagged us down only gave me a ticket for doing 110 in an 80 zone, not the 120 I was doing. That saved a couple of hundred bucks on the ticket cost. I have driven more mindfully since. Previous ticket was 1990 or so.
Later in the week we got up early and headed back to Saskatoon with our clippers, power scythe, etc and cleared brush out of the overgrown back yard of Sasha’s house. The former owner spent several years in decline before selling the house. The plants, especially the elm saplings ran amok.
Meanwhile back on the coast the sixtieth high school reunion occurred without me. The last reunion was just two years ago. We had been in my hometown this spring and it looked like there would be a direct conflict with a job that would start this month. The job started later than it could have but it would have been a juggle to do all the necessary prework for the job and still attend the reunion. One bonus is that Juanita didn’t have to choose between spending her birthday either at a dinner with a bunch of strangers or sitting at home while I went to a dinner with old classmates.
The job near Edmonton starts the last week of August. It will be six ten-hour days a week. It is expected to last into the middle of October. Since I am out of province and receive some living out payment, they have a tendency to shed my services sooner than the local hires. Until that happens, though, don’t expect much blogging.
When the job finishes, we plan to be busy prepping for winter and a twelve day tour of Vietnam starting late October.
Have a lovely Autumn.
